Yoshiki, internationally acclaimed musician, composer, philanthropist, and widely recognized as “Japan’s biggest rock star”, has donated €100,000 to support communities affected by the devastating wildfires in France and Spain and ¥10 million to support relief efforts following the powerful earthquake that struck Kumamoto Prefecture in Japan on July 29.
Through his U.S. 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, Yoshiki Foundation America, Yoshiki provided €50,000 to the French Red Cross and €50,000 to the Spanish Red Cross to assist emergency response and recovery efforts.
Wildfires continue to intensify across southwestern France, threatening communities near Bordeaux and forcing thousands of residents and visitors to evacuate. Yoshiki’s donation will help support the French Red Cross response, including:
French Red Cross volunteers are working in emergency shelters and evacuation centers throughout the affected areas, providing immediate assistance to people forced from their homes.
In Spain, the Red Cross is providing emergency assistance to communities affected by the wildfires, supporting displaced residents and helping meet immediate humanitarian needs as fires continue across several regions.
Yoshiki has also donated ¥10 million to the Japanese Red Cross Society to support people affected by the Kumamoto earthquake. Rescue operations remain underway, and authorities have warned residents to remain alert as aftershocks continue and further strong shaking remains possible.
“Even though I have lived in Los Angeles for many years, Japan will always be my home, and Europe—especially France—has also become another home to me,” Yoshiki said. “Seeing people in France, Spain, and Japan facing such devastating disasters is heartbreaking. My heart goes out to everyone affected by the wildfires in France and Spain, including those who have lost their homes and the courageous people working on the front lines.
“My thoughts are also with everyone affected by the earthquake in Kumamoto and those waiting for news of loved ones. With aftershocks continuing, please put your safety first. Disasters do not recognize borders, and compassion should not either. I hope these donations provide immediate support, encourage others to help, and remind those affected that they are not alone.”
Yoshiki‘s donations follow a significant month of performances connecting him closely with France and Los Angeles. Earlier this month, he performed at Japan Expo in Paris before traveling directly to Los Angeles for his sold-out two-night debut at Walt Disney Concert Hall on July 16 and 17.
Yoshiki has longstanding personal, artistic, and creative ties to France. Beyond his recent Paris performance, his connection to the country includes collaborations and ventures with distinguished French names including Champagne Pommery and Baccarat, as well as his fashion brand, MAISON YOSHIKI PARIS.
Through Yoshiki Foundation America, Yoshiki has supported disaster relief, humanitarian aid, medical research, education, and organizations assisting children and families around the world.
In 2025, he contributed $500,000 to Los Angeles wildfire relief through seven organizations, including the American Red Cross, World Central Kitchen, MusiCares, Cedars-Sinai, the Motion Picture & Television Fund, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce Foundation, and the Entertainment Community Fund. He also volunteered with World Central Kitchen near Altadena, distributing meals to first responders and affected residents.
Yoshiki has provided extensive disaster relief throughout Japan and Asia. In addition to his new ¥10 million contribution to the Japanese Red Cross Society for the Kumamoto earthquake, his recent donations include ¥50 million in combined support for communities affected by Japan’s Noto Peninsula earthquake, ¥10 million for victims of the Taiwan earthquake, $100,000 for victims of the Hong Kong fire disaster, and a combined $100,000 for flood relief in Thailand and Indonesia.
Over the years, Yoshiki has also supported recovery efforts following the Great East Japan Earthquake, the 2016 Kumamoto earthquakes, severe flooding and typhoons across Japan, the Sichuan earthquake in China, and other major disasters throughout the region.
His additional international relief efforts have included a $100,000 donation for victims of Hurricanes Helene and Milton, support for Hurricane Harvey victims, and contributions addressing the Australian and Amazon wildfires.
Yoshiki Foundation America is a U.S.-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded by Yoshiki to support humanitarian causes worldwide. The foundation provides assistance for disaster relief, medical and educational initiatives, and programs supporting children and families in need.
