Who wants to join Phil Anselmo and his tortoise for a tour?

It’s not a “tour” in the sense of band touring, but it’s quite similar. Or not at all. Phil Anselmo of Down and Pantera would participate in all the Halloween celebrations in his own unique style, as reported by MetalSucks. Since the start of COVID, Anselmo has been holding his own small haunted house event, and now he’s giving us a sneak peak at what this year’s looked like, in addition to the usual Halloween celebration fare like sweets and the creepies. Anselmo posted a video of himself and his tortoise, Harry, enthusiastically guiding visitors through the attraction on the Housecore Records YouTube channel, which was founded by Anselmo himself in 2001.

The Housecore Horror Film & Music Festival is a three-day festival/convention that honors metal, hard rock, and horror at its best. As a horror fan, Anselmo jumped at the chance to collaborate with best-selling true crime author Corey Mitchell (Hollywood Death Scenes, Dead and Buried). Anselmo’s intriguing response to the question of what horror film initially frightened him back in the day undoubtedly played a part in his current involvement in the haunted house game.

I won’t say it scared me, because it actually made me cry my eyes out, but King Kong was the first movie that really touched me as a kid. As far as scaring me and giving me the fear when I was a youngster, there was a movie called How Awful About Allan starring Anthony Perkins of Psychofame. That movie scared me. And of course, there’s no denying the power of The Exorcist. In grade school I saw Don’t Go In The House at the theater. I saw The Changeling at the theater — which scared the living, flying [crap] out of me! I saw Silent Scream with Barbara Steele and that was insane.
