We had the incredible opportunity to chat with Eva Under Fire about their new album and more while they’re on tour supporting Five Finger Death Punch. Eva, Rob, Chris, Ed and Dave shared more insight about their fantastic music!
Hello there! How are you doing at the moment?
Eva Under Fire: Hi! Things are great. Just had an awesome show in Vegas. We’re gearing up to play Utah tomorrow. I’m writing this at the hotel, just had dinner after an epic drive through some gorgeous scenery en route to playing the biggest shows of our lives. Can’t complain, haha.
This year you’ve released your new album “Villainous” – how has the press and the fans welcomed this new chapter for the band?
Eva Under Fire: We can tell we’re leaving the desired impression. The amazing fanbase we had is growing, other bands have congratulated us on landing this massive tour opportunity. It definitely feels like something different is happening in a really good way.
Many fans describe your music as a form of personal therapy. What has been the most profound message or story you’ve received from a fan about how your songs helped them through a mental health struggle?
Eva Under Fire: THERE’S SO MANY. That’s why we love hanging with listeners at the shows. Recently, I was in the pit and a man and his wife complimented our set. He said he was a military veteran and a friend in the service recommended our band to him. So that was pretty awesome.
You are hitting the road with Five Finger Death Punch and Cody Jinks. How has the tour been so far, and how are the bands touring with you?
Eva Under Fire: The experience has been beyond incredible. We’ve gotten a lot of support from the fans, but the energy behind the scenes has been even more amazing. Bonfire hangout almost every night with the Cody Jinks band and crew, high compliments and advice from Ivan and Zoltan. The 5FDP crew are all great to work with and have taken great care of us out here.
Hailing from Detroit — a city with a rich, gritty rock ‘n’ roll history — how much of the Motor City’s energy and work ethic has shaped Eva Under Fire’s identity?
Eva Under Fire: We hadn’t considered it to be anything but normal until we started touring. Then we noticed our Detroit grit mentality has shaped everything. It’s visible, often leaving a good impression with other bands and crew. We’re doing almost 60 dates in an RV. We have 2 crew members and the band. That’s it. Ivan was like, “That’s dedication”. For us, we’re like “it’s better than the 12 passenger van we were in last tour”! We’re all Downriver Rats (Downriver Detroit) that grew up 10 mins south of the city. We always knew we’d never leave unless we forced it to happen. So we did.
Building your reputation “brick by brick, show by show” requires relentless dedication. What was the hardest hurdle you faced as a band before reaching this level of recognition?
Eva Under Fire: It’s tough to keep the ball rolling. So many factors have to work simultaneously to afford touring, recording, restocking merch, buying gear, etc. The business side can definitely feel endless as a result so I’d say that’s the most exhausting part.
Can you share with us your families’ reaction to Eva Under Fire?
Eva Under Fire: My mom is a rocker. I’d come home to her vacuuming the house blaring Metallica. Her nickname is “Momma Fire” if that gives you any inclination, haha. My mother in law is the same way. My dad was also a rocker and bought me my first mic. My stepdad goes to more rock shows than I play and frequents rock bars in the local scene so it’s pretty cool to have parents that “get it”
Better Noise Music is home to some of the biggest names in modern rock. How has working with the label helped elevate Eva Under Fire?
Eva Under Fire: They have a big name that opens big doors which is very helpful. It’s certainly one of the best decisions we made for our career. Their support has been instrumental in actualizing our artistry.
If you could pick one classic rock or metal track to completely rearrange in the signature Eva Under Fire style, which one would it be?
Eva Under Fire: We have done that with Journey’s “Separate Ways“. It was something we played in bars to draw people in. Apparently it’s still a conversation starter cause when we played it at Mountainview, everyone freaked out! Sometimes we forget we’re playing to a mostly new audience and that gives them something to sing to and remember us by.
