Several musicians known from the classic lineup of King Diamond have joined forces in a new band called Lex Legion. The band will release its self-titled debut album in June 2026.
The lineup of Lex Legion features guitarists Andy La Rocque and Pete Blakk, bassist Hal Patino and drummer Mikkey Dee, who is also known for his long career with Motörhead and later Scorpions. Vocal duties are handled by Nils K. Rue, best known from Pagan’s Mind.
The band originally began from an idea between Mikkey Dee and Pete Blakk, with the lineup largely built around their shared history. All four instrumentalists previously performed together on King Diamond’s classic albums “Them” and “Conspiracy”.
Andy La Rocque describes the musical direction of the new band:
“The style of the songs is different from King Diamond, but it still comes from the same era. The riffs are different and the arrangements are slightly more straightforward. The album contains elements of everything — the right tempo and the kind of vocals that hit you like a punch in the face immediately.”
According to La Rocque, the goal of the album is to offer something unique:
“This is completely its own thing. Nobody is really writing music like this right now, and there’s clearly a gap waiting to be filled. The album is a journey, and every song feels like a scene from a movie. I want the listener to travel back into the past.”
Mikkey Dee summarizes the band’s attitude in a straightforward manner:
“Lex Legion was made exactly the same way we thought back in the ‘80s. We did what we wanted — if you like it, great. If you don’t, that’s fine too. Enjoy it or leave it.”
