The first night of Metallica‘s 40th anniversary celebrations took place last night, December 17th. This opening night didn’t serve up too many bombshells setlist wise, though it did open with a voiceover from Aquaman, etc. actor (and passionate metalhead) Jason Momoa.

Outside of that, the concert, which was livestreamed from Chase Center in San Francisco, CA, also saw the first live performance of “Trapped Under Ice” since 2012, the first performance of “King Nothing” since 2017 and the live debut of the “Reload” track “Fixxxer“. Fan-filmed footage of the latter is available below:

The legendary thrash metal band will be back onstage for a second 40th anniversary show at the aforementioned venue this Sunday, December 19th. As with the first show, it will be livestreamed across the internet for free. You can find out additional details on how to watch it here.
