U2 to release a new album in November titled ‘How to Re-Assemble an Atomic Bomb’

Author Benedetta Baldin - 27.9.2024

With previously unheard tracks from their 2004 album “How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb”, U2 has announced the release of a new album titled “How to Re-Assemble an Atomic Bomb”. The album, which is scheduled for release on November 29th, comes one week after the original LP’s remastered 20th anniversary edition. The new piece will be released digitally and as an exclusive for Record Store Day on Black Friday. “Picture of You (X+W)” and “Country Mile,” two tracks off the album, are available for listening. An additional track called “Fast Cars,” which was previously exclusive to CDs distributed in the United Kingdom, Ireland, and Japan, will now be included in the remastered version of U2‘s 11th album, “How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb”, which won the Grammy Award.

The sessions for How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb were such a creative period for the band, we were exploring so many song ideas in the studio. We were inspired to revisit our early music influences, and it was a time of deep personal introspection for Bono who was attempting to process – dismantle – the death of his father. For this anniversary edition, I went into my personal archive to see if there were any unreleased gems and I hit the jackpot. We chose 10 that really spoke to us. Although at the time we left these songs to one side, with the benefit of hindsight we recognize that our initial instincts about them being contenders for the album were right, we were onto something. What you’re getting on this shadow album is that raw energy of discovery, the visceral impact of the music, a sonic narrative, a moment in time, the exploration and interaction of four musicians playing together in a room … this is the pure U2 drop. This is the first time the ten tracks that were found in the band’s archives have been made available. Some tracks from the sessions, such “Smile” and “Xanax and Wine,” aren’t featured here because they have since been included on official releases. 20 years ago, around the time of the release of “How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb”, a demo for “Luckiest Man in the World,” dubbed “Mercy” at the time, leaked. Its official debut occurs during a studio session. “How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb”, remastered, will be available on vinyl in the following formats: limited edition 8-LP Super Deluxe Collectors Boxset; vinyl 2-LP; exclusive D2C 2-LP Black & Red Ink Spot Vinyl; limited edition 5-CD Super Deluxe Collectors box set; CD; and limited edition Red & Black cassette. There will be a dual digital edition of “How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb (Re-Assemble Edition)”, which includes “How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb” and “How to Re-Assemble an Atomic Bomb”. Visit the band’s website for further details. The “How to Re-Assemble an Atomic Bomb” track listing is shown below. A trailer for each of the impending releases may be seen below.
