Two recently remastered Meshuggah albums have been scheduled for digital distribution, as per theprp. Reigning Phoenix Music has announced that the 30th anniversary version of the Swedish metal extremists’ 1995 sophomore album “Destroy Erase Improve” and the similarly restored 20th anniversary edition of their 2005 fifth studio album, “Catch Thirtythree,” will be released on July 24. As part of this year’s “Record Store Day,” those sonically altered versions were first released in April on vinyl pressings that were restricted to 1600 copies each. You may now stream the updated versions of “Future Breed Machine” from “Destroy Erase Improve” and “Shed” from “Catch Thirtythree,” but no other songs are included.
Over the past few years, Reigning Phoenix Music has been releasing anniversary versions of important releases from the band’s catalogue that have been remastered by Thomas Eberger and Sofia von Hage.
The Swedish extreme metal group Meshuggah was founded in Umeå in 1987. Jens Kidman (lead vocals) and Fredrik Thordendal (lead guitar), along with rhythm guitarist Mühlten Hagström, drummer Tomas Haake, and bassist Dick Lěgren, have been the band’s founding members since 2004. The group has put out eight music videos, six EPs, and nine studio albums since its founding. Atomic Fire Records published their most recent studio album, “Immutable”, in April 2022.
Meshuggah has gained recognition for their inventive musical approach as well as their intricate, polymetered song structures and polyrhythms. They developed a cult following, became well-known as an important act in extreme underground music, and influenced contemporary metal bands. The band was named the most significant band in metal by Alternative Press and one among the top ten hard rock and heavy metal bands by Rolling Stone. The band served as an inspiration for the djent subgenre in the late 2000s. For their albums “Catch Thirtythree” and “obZen”, respectively, Meshuggah received nominations for two Swedish Grammy Awards in 2006 and 2009. The group received a Grammy Award nomination in 2018 for their song “Clockworks” in the “Best Metal Performance” category.
In addition to participating in the “Ophidian Trek” and the “obZen” world tour from 2008 to 2010, the band has played at other international festivals, such as Ozzfest and Download.
