When discussing the most influential vocalists in death metal music of all time, leaving Max Cavalera’s name off the list would be nothing short of a crime. Originally known as the frontman of Brazilian extreme metal pioneers Sepultura, Cavalera has been touring stages for over three decades with Soulfly, Cavalera Conspiracy, Go Ahead And Die, and Killer Be Killed, serving as a role model for countless extreme metal vocalists tearing stages down today worldwide.

When Max Cavalera’s Soulfly arrived at Helsinki’s legendary Tavastia club on June 14th, we sat down with Max to discuss his long and magnificent career from a vocalist’s perspective. In the interview, Max shared stories from his early days with us and opened up about his own insights on how his voice has developed over the years while working with several different bands and as their front man.
