Thy Catafalque release live video for “Ködkirály” ahead of Latin American tour

Hungarian avant-garde metal act Thy Catafalque, led by Tamás Kátai, has released a haunting live video for “Ködkirály”, filmed during a sold-out show at Budapest’s Dürer Kert. The track appears on the band’s latest album, “XII: A gyönyörű álmok ezután jönnek” (“The Beautiful Dreams Are Yet to Come”), out now via Season of Mist.

Originally intended as a return to straightforward metal, the album instead became another surreal journey through atmospheric synths, ethereal vocals, and crushing riffs. “Ködkirály” — which means “King of Fog” — blends dreamy textures with a mid-song death metal eruption, driven by dueling guitarists Zoltán Vigh and Krisztián Varga, and a commanding vocal performance from Gábor Dudás.

“XII: A gyönyörű álmok ezután jönnek” was described as “charming, sophisticated and irresistible” in a review on Chaoszine. The album showcases Kátai’s cinematic style and seamless genre-hopping — from oriental melodies to classical, blues, folk, and extreme metal — all without sacrificing coherence.

Following appearances at Hellfest, Kilkim Žaibu, and a triumphant homecoming set at Fishing on Orfű, Thy Catafalque is now gearing up for their first-ever Latin American tour this October, with stops confirmed in Mexico, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Chile, and Argentina.
