French metal band Gojira joins the ranks of bands that have scientific discoveries named after them. In the past acts such as Nightwish and progemetallers Between The Buried And Me and The Ocean have inspired the naming of new discoveries.

Three brittle star fossils have now been named after Gojira. The fossils are named after members of the band; Ophiogojira labadiei, Ophiogojira andreui and Ophioduplantiera noctiluca after the band’s Duplantier brothers.

The discoveries were made by paleontologists Lea Numberger and Ben Thuy of the Luxembourg Museum of Natural History and biologist Tania Pineda of the Florida Museum of Natural History.
