“This new album was put together with less of a burden” – Interview with Tobias Sammet about Avantasia’s “Here be Dragons”, playing bass and memories from Finland

Tobias Sammet is the mastermind behind Avantasia and probably the guy with the most friends in the metal scene. He’s always busy, whether he’s playing for thousands of fans around the world or recording new music with some of the best voices in metal.

After 25 years of history, Avantasia is ready to release their tenth album called “Here Be Dragons”. The record will be released by Napalm Records on February 28th and once again features an incredible cast of guests, such as Michael Kiske, Geoff Tate, Roy Khan and many more.

Promoting the new album, Chaoszine spoke with Tobi over a video call to talk about the process of being his own producer, the role of bass in his career and the special connection he has with Finland, after spending years recording and making history there.
