Face Yourself are not afraid to speak their voice—and it’s absolutely devastating. Their upcoming EP “Fury” represents a band that has not only matured sonically but discovered a good balance between brutality and depth, two elements at the core (pun intended) of their genre.
Once again partnering with Joey Sturgis as producer, Face Yourself has crafted their most cohesive and punishing sound to date. “Fractures” in collaboration with Crystal Lake reveals once and for all how versatile this group is, and it’s an excellent choice for a single. It’s deathcore with a purpose, channeling real pain and social commentary through the aggression that is inherent in the genre.
When I said the sound was cohesive, in this case this is a double edged sword for the record, I’m afraid. Because even though “Fury” demonstrates Face Yourself‘s clear development in their craft, the tracks occasionally blend together. The listening experience could sound a bit predictable, even though definitely not boring! An exception would be the brilliant “Catacombs“, my favorite track of the whole release.
“Fury” sounds like a band that is being more confident in their rhythms. Face Yourself has improved by taking the positive aspects from their previous works and making them more brutal, focused, and emotionally impactful. “Fury” delivers on all fronts for fans of devastating breakdowns and emotionally intelligent lyrics. This is Face Yourself‘s finest work to date and a definite indication that they are prepared to compete with the best of deathcore.
