Vinnie Vincent has expressed a preference to delay the release of his new “Guitarmageddon” album rather than distribute it through traditional commercial channels, as per UCR.
The former Kiss guitarist concedes that this outcome may be inevitable, as he has yet to secure sufficient support from fans to sustain his distinctive and expensive distribution strategy for the highly anticipated record.
In December, Vincent unveiled an unconventional approach to releasing “Guitarmageddon”, proposing to sell individual songs via signed and numbered CDs, each priced at $200 plus shipping.
He stated that shipments would only commence once he achieved 1,000 pre-sales per track, with his website listing 18 song titles and hinting at additional content, implying a minimum total cost of $3,600 for the complete album.
Vincent promptly defended his methodology against criticisms and concerns voiced by fans, asserting that industry shifts such as illegal downloads and streaming have rendered traditional compensation models unfeasible for artists.
Over the holiday period, he reiterated these sentiments on his Facebook page, acknowledging the low likelihood of sufficient sales but maintaining his resolve not to abandon his plan.
There’s no money releasing a record like this with bootlegging thieves at my door. Unless I get compensated for my work, the album stays unheard. It comes down to this; if the fan support is not there which it does not appear to be, this record will not be released. Am I fine with that? Absolutely. 100%. It will be the greatest album of all time, never to be heard, never to be released. If people want my music, and think they’re punishing me by not buying it because of the price, it matters not to me. They’re the ones who will lose out.
He also stated:
Guitarmaggedon is one of the greatest rock albums of all time. I lived thru Meet the Beatles, Led Zeppelin II,(Jimi) Hendrix Are You Experienced, Jeff Beck Truth, Cream Wheels of Fire, Pink Floyd etc… The only difference is these albums are generation tested and have the benefit of fermentation of time. But as for impact and perfection from the first song to last, Guitarmaggedon is a classic.
