Swedish garage rockers The Hives have just unveiled a flashy new video for their latest single “Paint A Picture”. Directed by Filip Nilsson and Henry Moore Selder, the clip bursts with pop-art flair, channeling a comic book aesthetic straight out of a Roy Lichtenstein painting.
The track is taken from the band’s upcoming seventh studio album, “The Hives Forever Forever The Hives”, which is set for release on August 29. Produced by longtime collaborator Pelle Gunnerfeldt and featuring contributions from Mike D (Beastie Boys) and Josh Homme (Queens of the Stone Age), the album promises 13 high-octane tracks dripping with The Hives’ signature swagger and chaos.
Lyrically, “Paint A Picture” tackles the romanticism of life on the fringes, with a tongue-in-cheek message about convincing others — and maybe even yourself — that living outside the lines is the only way to go. The song has already become a crowd favourite at recent shows, setting the stage for what’s sure to be an explosive album rollout.
The release of “Paint A Picture” follows the band’s April single “Enough Is Enough”, continuing the momentum as they gear up for the world tour.
“The Hives Forever Forever The Hives” will be their first album since 2023’s The Death of Randy Fitzsimmons, which ended an 11-year gap in full-length releases. Judging by the new single and video, the band isn’t just back — they’re back in technicolor.
