Guitarist Ted Nugent is repeatedly in the headlines for his provocative statements. A short while ago, Nugent accused the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame’s backing organisation of dishonesty, and earlier he claimed that vegans kill more animals with their diets than meat eaters.
In his December live stream, Ted commented on the much-covered 100 Greatest Guitarists list compiled by Rolling Stone magazine 12 years ago.
Nugent said on the stream that he didn’t think Joan Jett, known for The Runaways and her solo career, belonged on the list. Jett is ranked 87th on the list.
“So I just mentioned some killer, monster guitar players, huh? Some of the best that ever lived. When you see the Rolling Stone magazine list of greatest guitar players, they list Joan Jett but not Tommy Shaw [of Styx]”, Nugent starts and continues:
“How do you list the top 100 guitar players and not list Derek St. Holmes? How do you do that? You do that by lying. The same way you get Grandmaster Flash in the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. You do that by lying. You have to be a liar. You have to have shit for brains and you have to be a soulless, soulless prick to put Joan Jett… [I] love Joan. Some of my greatest memories include lesbians. I love the lesbians; it’s a cocktail of wonderment.”
Now Joan Jett has finally responded to Nugent’s comments. In a recent interview with The NME, Jett responded:
“Ted Nugent has to live with being Ted Nugent. He has to be in that body, so that’s punishment enough. He’s not a tough guy. He plays tough guy, but this is the guy who shit his pants – literally – so he didn’t have to go in the Army.”
Jett’s comments refer to 1977, when in an interview with the High Times, Nugent said he had been in a medical examination by the army, but because of stomach problems caused by his poor diet he had defecated in his pants.
