Finnish band T.Jarva & The Dark Place today release two singles, titled “Hades Children” and “Pompeii Dog“. These two tracks are taken from the band’s upcoming second album. If you’re attending the John Smith Frozen Festival in Jyväskylä, you’ll be lucky to hear these two tracks live! You can get the band’s debut album by clicking here.
Rooted in the core of the acoustic duo composed of Taneli Jarva and Sami Hassinen, T. Jarva & The Dark Place traverses the dimly lit paths between alt-country and folk noir. Formed in Christmas 2018 by Taneli Jarva and Sami Hassinen, the duo first tried their wings by occasionally playing live covers of their heroes such as Townes van Zandt, Leonard Cohen, Tom Waits, Nick Cave, Marianne Faithfull and Mark Lanegan. Their emerging sound relied heavily on Jarva’s dark baritone voice and the interplay between his steel-string rhythm guitar and Sami Hassinen’s nylon-string melodies.
So far, the band has played at doom metal and country music festivals, supported Finnish and foreign artists, and appeared in art galleries, birthday parties, stag parties and even a funeral ceremony. One could therefore deduce that there are very few occasions where The Dark Place would not be an asset – provided that the audience does not expect dancing and pep talks, of course.
