A few days ago, Sum 41 frontman Deryck Whibley had to be hospitalised with pneumonia, even spending a night in the emergency room. After it was originally said that he would have to stay in the hospital for a few more days, due to the risk of heart failure, the Canadian musician was released from the hospital quite quickly and is now under the care of his mother, a registered nurse, and his wife Ariana Cooper Whibley. After it was Ariana Cooper Whibley who shared updates via Instagram, Deryck Whibley himself is now addressing his fans:

“I wanted to take a min to say thank you to everyone for so much love and support. Although I’m not out of the woods yet and have been told to be prepared for a bit of roller coaster sickness over the next couple of weeks, I’m staying positive and doing my best to get through all of this. I’m still bed ridden, having a hard time breathing, tight chest pains and some pretty wild fever dreams, that I guess are keeping this whole thing somewhat entertaining. I’m in the best hands and am on the right medicine. I plan on being my absolute best for When We Were Young next month. That’s my goal. Thank you, so much love, Deryck”

The risk of heart failure was based on Deryck Whibley’s history of alcohol abuse and hard partying from which he almost died in 2014 when his liver and kidneys collapsed due to the alcohol abuse. Since the hospitalisation in 2014, Deryck Whibley is leading a sober life.

Sum 41 are scheduled to play at the sold-out When We Were Young festival in Las Vegas which is taking place on 21 October 2023 and 22 October 2023. On 20 October 2023, Sum 41 will also play a When We Were Young sideshow.
