Blues Pills are gearing up for the release of their new album “Birthday” on August 2nd and are releasing the fourth single from the upcoming album titled “Piggyback Ride” (listen HERE!).
“This is my favorite single from the album,” says frontwoman Elin Larsson. Guitarist Zack continues: “This track is so experimental for us, it goes in a lot of unexpected directions, and it’s definitely the heaviest track on the new album.“
“It gets really wild,” agrees Elin, “it’s fun, I enjoy the effect on my vocals. I said to our producer, ‘I really want to sound like a pig, can you pitch me down?” Elin laughs, “I’ll have to put a lot of oomph into the song when we play it live in the fall, it’s got a lot going for it. These pigs have a real temper!“
The new single “Piggyback Ride” was inspired by the pigs in Elin’s neighborhood. Elin clarifies:
You look for inspiration and sometimes it comes from the wildest places. I live in a small town near Västerås in Sweden, and there are a lot of problems with the wild boars in the woods. They destroy playgrounds and people’s gardens like an evil biker gang running amok. There are a lot of them, they just live their own wild life with no rules. I felt so sorry for them because I think they were misunderstood, but at the same time they can be very dangerous, especially when they have babies. I was thinking about these pigs and I wanted to write a song about them, what it would be like to hang out with them and ride around on their piggy backs and cause chaos!
It feels like a song that people want to ride motorcycles to. We’re looking forward to playing it live. Zack
Blues Pills‘ new album “Birthday” exudes an unbridled energy and live feel that is a testament to their confidence in their ability to create new, compelling sounds without changing the explosive formula that got them started – a sound that is as colorful as it is rocking and fun. Their continuity is testament to their determination to evolve and mature their sound in a volatile industry.
Blues Pills will release their fourth studio album on August 2nd before embarking on a European tour in October. “Birthday” was written and recorded in the idyllic Swedish countryside and at Recordia Studios. The recordings took just 10 days and were produced by renowned songwriter and studio guru Freddy Alexander.
