Still standing: Social Distortion at Koko, London

Some bands you follow for years before you finally get to see them live, and when the moment arrives, it feels less like a concert and more like closing a loop. Social Distortion rolled through Koko in London on a Tuesday, with support from Split Dogs, and the room filled up with exactly the kind of crowd Mike Ness has always attracted: people who’ve had the records on repeat since their teens and people who only just discovered them, somehow standing side by side and singing the same words. The set leaned on the classics, which is exactly what you’d want from a band whose catalogue feels like a collection of small, honest confessions set to punk and twang.
