Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler is scheduled to go on trial in the Los Angeles County Superior Court in connection with a child sexual assault lawsuit, as per MetalInjection. In particular, Tyler has been charged with sexually abusing, grooming, and impregnating Julia Misley in the 1970s when she was 16 and he was in his mid-20s, forcing her to get an abortion. The lawsuit, which was initially filed in 2022, claims that Tyler took advantage of Misley by abusing “his role, status, and power as a well-known musician and rock star.” The goal also alludes to Tyler’s purported admission of guilt in his own memoir, “Does the Noise in My Head Bother You?”, where he calls Misley his “teen bride.”
Naturally, Tyler has refuted every accusation. Because of the statute of limitations in Massachusetts, where the couple lived during their relationship, a judge dismissed the majority of the lawsuit earlier this week. Tyler was given the authority to take Misley on tours after being appointed as her legal guardian. The Child Victims Act, a 2020 law that permits alleged victims to bring lawsuits regardless of any statute of limitations, allowed the case to be filed in California despite the two reportedly travelling across multiple state lines, including stopping in the state.
This is a massive win for Steven Tyler. Today, the Court has dismissed with prejudice 99.9% of the claims against Mr. Tyler in this case. The court has decided that only one night, 50-plus years ago, out of a three-year relationship is allowed to remain. – David Long–Daniels, Tyler’s lawyer
This reflects years of resilience and courage by Ms. Misley, driven by an unwavering pursuit of truth and justice. It is time for justice and for Tyler to be held accountable by a jury. – Jeff Anderson, Misley’s lawyer
The trial will start this upcoming August.
