Less than two years after the renowned rock band announced that they were formally retired from touring owing to frontman Steven Tyler’s vocal injury, Joe Perry discussed the prospect of Aerosmith performing live once more in a recent interview with Billboard, as per Blabbermouth. The statement was made on August 2, 2024, over a year after the singer, who is currently 78 years old, broke his larynx during a performance in September 2023. Regarding the possibility of another Aerosmith show, Perry made this statement.
The band is still kind of definitely not in touring mode, but there are certainly other options, so we stay in touch. You just never know. It’s just been in the last six months that Steven’s started to get comfortable with singing; he literally had to take a year off before he was able to start stretching his vocal cords, and you’re always worried about reinjuring it. I learned a long time ago that everything we do is fragile… so we just take it day by day. You hope for the best. You just have to have the confidence and have that vision of positive in front of you. You can’t do it unless you envision it.
On April 30, 2025, Perry staged a private performance in San Francisco, California, where Tyler and Perry performed together for the first time in almost two years. The occasion served as a fundraiser for Janie’s Fund, a project Tyler started to help traumatized girls and young women find healing and hope. After what ended up being their last performance in Elmont, New York on September 9, 2023, Aerosmith’s “Peace Out” tour came to an end. Only three dates into the journey, which was scheduled to end in February 2024, that performance took place. In a statement at the time, Tyler noted that although the injury caused bleeding, he believed they would resume touring after some gigs were postponed.
