Smash Mouth singer Steve Harwell is said to have only a few days left to live after suffering from liver failure.

Harwell, aged 56, is in hospice care and his family and friends have gathered to say their final goodbyes, the band’s manager told TMZ. He is not expected to survive beyond next week.

Nearly two years ago, Harwell announced his retirement from Smash Mouth due to ongoing health problems. He had been diagnosed with cardiomyopathy, a form of heart disease that led to heart failure. He also developed Wernicke’s encephalopathy, an acute neurological condition that can affect a person’s central nervous system.

Harwell co-founded Smash Mouth in 1994. The band has two top 10 singles to their name — “Walkin’ on the Sun” and “All Star” — and their sophomore album “Astro Lounge” went triple platinum. Both “All-Star” and Smash Mouth’s cover of “I’m a Believer” were featured prominently in the first Shrek film.
