Since returning to active duty in 2024, the legendary thrash metal band Slayer has performed eight times, as per theprp. At least four more dates will be added to that number by the end of the year. The renowned group just announced two new performances in Minnesota and California. Additionally, the group’s extremely influential third studio album, “Reign In Blood” from 1986, will celebrate its 40th anniversary on these dates. Both of these additional gigs will feature full album performances.

On September 4th, the band will perform that historic album at the Mystic Lake Amphitheatre in Shakopee, Minnesota, with sludge metal supergroup Down, crossover veterans Suicidal Tendencies, and metalcore mainstay Hatebreed opening. On November 13th, the band will perform the album at Kia Forum in Inglewood, California. Death metal lifers Cannibal Corpse, the Cavalera brothers (who cover Sepultura’s ‘Chaos A.D.’), and up-and-coming sludge metal stars Crowbar will open the second date. Layer has already announced two festival stops for the fall: September 6th at the yearly ‘Rocklahoma’ festival in Pryor, Oklahoma, and October 24th at this year’s inaugural ‘Sick New World’ festival in Fort Worth.

The American thrash metal group Slayer, based in Huntington Park, California, was founded in 1981 by drummer Dave Lombardo, bassist/vocalist Tom Araya, and guitarists Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman. Slayer was one of the “big four” bands of thrash metal, along with MetallicaMegadeth, and Anthrax, thanks to their fast-paced, violent sound. King, Araya, drummer Paul Bostaph, and guitarist Gary Holt make up Slayer‘s current lineup. Holt joined the band as a touring musician in 2011 before becoming a permanent member following Hanneman’s death in 2013; drummer Jon Dette was previously a member.
