The sequel to 2008’s “Chinese Democracy” still seems to be up in the air, despite the fact that Guns N’ Roses have a sizable backlog of new songs in the works. The aforementioned album by the hard rock titans was notoriously delayed by about 15 years and was eventually released after the group was under tremendous duress from a slew of high-profile leaks. Guitarist Slash discussed the band’s current status with that record in a recent interview that appeared in the print issue of Guitar World, as reported by theprp.
There’s so much material at this point — it’s a matter of having the discipline to sit down and fucking get into it. But the thing with Guns is, in my experience, you can never plan ahead. You can never sit down and go, ‘We’re going to take this time , and we’re going to do this.’
Every time we’ve done that, it falls apart. It just spontaneously happens through some sort of inspiration that triggers it. And the next thing you know, It’s off and running. So it’s coming. I know it’s coming because everybody is thinking about it. It’ll just happen when it happens.
Naturally, there is still a lot more excitement surrounding a possible new Guns N’ Roses album than there was for “Chinese Democracy.” Fans were eager to see if the band could relive some of the magic of their early hits, and in 2016, they welcomed back core members Slash and bassist/vocalist Duff McKagan, even though the sessions for that record took ten years and involved a variety of people.
