When Shinedown performed on May 16 at the Kohl Center in Madison, Wisconsin, they granted a long-standing fan’s dream, as per Loudwire. About halfway through their hit-filled performance, the band paused to fulfil a fan request for a live rarity that hadn’t been done in eighteen years. The song was “Junkies for Fame,” a bonus track on the deluxe reissue of “The Sound of Madness”, the band’s best-selling album. After performing “Searchlight,” “Enemies,” “Call Me,” and “Misfits” consecutively (according to Setlist.fm), everyone in the audience—possibly with the exception of one fan—was taken aback by their setlist’s eleventh song of the evening.
Now it’s about to get really interesting, a young man by the name of Anthony asked us to play a song earlier. Real quick, before you say anything. We don’t do this for anyone. Anthony, you are the number one tonight, my brother. You are the number one, my man. What he means by that is we have not played this song in 18 years and I mean legitimately 18 years. By the way Anthony, you just made our monitor engineer the happiest guy on earth. Hey, if this falls apart, I hope you still have a good time tonight, cause it probably will.
Before continuing, the band was able to rock out through the first chorus and verse of the song. However, before doing so, Brent Smith noticed “All you man” and hurried over to give the fan a hug and a forehead kiss, while drummer Barry Kerch gave him a hug and the drumsticks he had just played. The request came from someone exceptional, as Smith’s words may suggest. Anthony, the fan, was present for his 102nd Shinedown performance.
