American metalcore band Shadows Fall are wrapping up recording for their eighth studio album, the long‑anticipated follow‑up to 2012’s “Fire from the Sky”. They’re currently in the studio with producer Zeuss, and drummer Jason Bittner recently confirmed that the band has tracked five songs so far and has begun recording the remaining five tracks.
So far, two singles—“In The Grey” and “Souls Devoured”—have been released, and it’s been reported that around six or seven instrumentals are complete, with vocals in progress on several tracks. According to Bittner, the full album should arrive “when it’s done,” with hopes to finish before the end of 2025, though there’s still no confirmed release date.
The band’s current approach in the studio is focused on capturing a more raw and live‑sounding energy, moving away from the overly polished style of modern metal production. The goal is to preserve the aggressive, thrash‑driven feel that defined their earlier work.
Shadows Fall returned from an extended hiatus in 2021 and have been steadily building momentum since. They dropped “In The Grey” in late 2024 followed by “Souls Devoured” in May 2025, both showing that the band hasn’t lost their edge. Their hometown of Springfield, Massachusetts even declared July 18, 2025 “Shadows Fall Day” in recognition of the band’s legacy and renewed activity.
