Scott Ian (Anthrax) is the latest guest in “What’s In My Bag?” series

Thrash metal icon Scott Ian, known for his work with Anthrax, Mr. Bungle, Stormtroopers of Death, and others, was asked to feature in the most recent episode of Amoeba Music’s enduring ‘What’s In My Bag? ’ series, as per theprp. Below, you have the opportunity to see him explore the racks of the music retailer’s Hollywood, California store, where he shares insights on his selections. His picks included a variety of classic rock, metalcore, and punk titles, along with the first release from his son Revel’s band, XCOMM. This Friday, September 18th, will mark the long-awaited arrival of Anthrax’s forthcoming studio album, “Cursum Perficio,” ending a wait of over a decade.

Bassist Dan Lilker and rhythm guitarist Scott Ian founded the New York City-based American heavy metal group Anthrax in 1981. Together with Metallica, Megadeth, and Slayer, the band is regarded as one of the pioneers of the 1980s thrash metal scene and one of the “Big Four” of the genre. Along with Overkill and Nuclear Assault, they were among the earliest thrash metal bands to come out of the East Coast. Scott Ian, drummer Charlie Benante, bassist Frank Bello, singer Joey Belladonna, and lead guitarist Jonathan Donais make up the band’s current lineup. Ian is the only member of Anthrax that has remained consistent throughout the band’s several lineup changes.

Ian and Benante, who took over drumming duties from Greg D’Angelo in 1983, are the only two guys who’ve been on every Anthrax album. Charlie Bello joined Anthrax in 1984, stepping in for Lilker. After a few member changes, Anthrax dropped their first album, “Fistful of Metal”, in 1984 with singer Neil Turbin. Joey Belladonna came on board later that year, and that’s when the band’s lineup really settled down. Their third record, “Among the Living”, released in 1987, was the first time they really hit the big time, and it’s considered a classic thrash metal album.
