I’m unsure wheter if you like Japan or not, but there are various bands and artists from this fantastic country that are worth checking out. One of them is definitely Coldrain, that are back with a new EP titled “OPTIMIZE”, out in just a few days via Century Media Records.
They’ve been able to find the perfect balance between clean and harsh vocals, power and softness, emotions and technique. Well, it looks like they’ve definitely chosen the right title! “OPTIMIZE” is a great product, with mixing, mastering and production done wonderfully.
If the live footage of “Chasing Shadows” is anything to go by, “OPTIMIZE” is poised to deliver the kind of raw, high-octane energy fans have come to expect from coldrain — but possibly with a darker, more atmospheric edge. With Masato promising “a much more intense pure energy coldrain show” this winter, the EP is clearly crafted with the live stage in mind.
Tracks like “DIGITOLL” are perfect to demonstrate the qualities of the whole band. Masato’s vocals are as vesatiles as ever, Y.K.C and Sugi on guitars do an amazing job in creating and intertwining melodies, RxYxO’s bass is a bit hidden in the mix, but everything comes together under Katsuma’s masterful drumming.
In conclusion, the Japanese quintet has provided us with another very solid release. So don’t wait and hope, but stream and buy Coldrain‘s EP because it is one of the greatest releases of 2025. Wheter you just found out about them or you have known them since their debut album, it doesn’t matter. Coldrain is here to stay, and we’re very much glad for this.
