Gitta Lindemann, the mother of Rammstein frontman Till Lindemann, has died at the age of 87. German public broadcaster NDR reports that she passed away at her home in Northwest Mecklenburg on Saturday, October 24, 2026. Her family confirmed her death to the broadcaster.

Born Brigitte Lindemann on April 11, 1939, Gitta built a career of her own as a journalist, writer and poet. She headed NDR’s cultural editorial department in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania during the 1990s and remained in the role until her retirement in 2002.

Literature remained central to her life. In 2023 she published her memoir “Meine Fensterplätze”, reflecting on her experiences and memories. Earlier in 2026 she presented her poetry collection “Lautlos” at the Leipzig Book Fair.

She was married to writer Werner Lindemann, who died in 1993 and whose centenary was commemorated this October. Their son Till later became internationally known as the singer of Rammstein, while also pursuing his own literary work.

In its tribute, NDR remembered Gitta Lindemann as a curious, inspiring and humorous colleague whose passion for literature, theatre and music continued long after retirement. Her professional and creative achievements extended well beyond her connection to the famous musician.

No cause of death has been publicly announced.
