Rage Against the Machine post statement on Kyle Rittenhouse verdict

Rage Against the Machine have posted a statement against the acquittal of Kyle Rittenhouse, the 17 year old teenager who murdered two men at a protest for racial justice last summer in Kenosha, WI.

Accompanying an infamous photo of Rittenhouse crying in the court room during his testimony, the notoriously liberal band, speaking through their own social media, called out the double standards by which people of different skin colors are treated in the American judicial system.

The band’s statement was:

What defines innocence in America? Tamir Rice was executed by police for playing with a toy. Nobody was charged. Ahmaud Arbery went jogging and was murdered in broad daylight.

Kyle Rittenhouse armed himself and killed people who were fighting for racial justice. He claimed self-defense. This is the settler logic of America’s founding myth: whiteness must cast itself as the victim in order to justify its violence against those resisting its oppression. Welcome to the Land of the Free, Home of the Brave.

Rage Against the Machine, condemning the acquittal of 17 year old Kyle Rittenhouse from first-degree intentional homicide.
