Long-running Finnish industrial metal band Ruoska has released a new music video for their track “Kade”, and the video is now premiering exclusively on Chaoszine. The song appears on the band’s latest album “Kade”, on which the group pushes its musical boundaries further than before while incorporating an even broader range of influences into their industrial metal sound.
The video was directed by Henrik Mennander, and its story takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where the last survivors of humanity live under the constant threat of hydrogen bombs.
In the story, a mythical figure known as Kade looks down from a cliff at the devastated planet while bombs continue to strike its surface over and over again. The few remaining survivors hide underground whenever red warning lights appear, returning briefly to the surface when a green signal indicates that the danger has momentarily passed.
Ruoska themselves are also part of this dystopian universe in the video. The band members struggle to survive in the dangerous environment while rushing toward their next show amid the bombardment. Once the group finally reunites, Ruoska manages to perform only a single song during their streamed concert before bombs once again force them to flee toward the next safe location.
The creators of the video wanted to combine cinematic storytelling with a traditional band performance video in a way where the band naturally exists within the world of the story. The idea was to build something resembling a “mini-film”, where the music and narrative flow seamlessly together.
The video was filmed in a DIY spirit between 2021 and 2022, while the final post-production was completed in 2024. The finished video waited for the right moment to be released, which ultimately arrived alongside the release of the band’s new album.
