The incident occurred early Monday morning (October 28) after their show in Rio de Janeiro.

While on tour promoting their latest album, the brilliant conceptual work “Lampião Rei”, which tells the story of Virgulino Ferreira da Silva, the band Papangu from Paraíba lost all their equipment after an armed robbery. The robbery took place on Monday, following their performance at Audio Rebel, a music venue in Botafogo, in Rio’s South Zone, which was supposed to be the final stop on their tour in the Southeast.

According to information shared by the band on their Instagram page, one of their cars was stolen early in the morning right after the show. Two band members were held up by armed assailants, who took the rented car containing not only personal items but also all their merchandise stock and part of their equipment. Despite the scare, the band members have returned home safely.

What was stolen?

The stolen instruments and equipment include: a Squier Telecaster Signature Jim Root, an Epiphone Les Paul Custom Shop (limited 2008 edition), a Tone Ink CSS preamp, a Behringer Vintage Delay pedal, a Polytune2 Mini, a Mosky Silver Horse, a Boss BF-2 Flanger, a Mooer Pure Boost, a Boss RV-3, a Mooer Black Secret, two Digitech Drops, a Boss GT1, a Boss DS1X, a Pearl Eliminator P20002c pedal, an Orion 20×10 crash, an Orion 20×10 china, a pair of Sabian 14 B8 Pro hi-hats, an Orion 20 Rage Bass crash, an Octagon OC-2000 ride, hundreds of CDs, dozens of vinyl records (including test pressings), and dozens of T-shirts.

Altogether, based on the band’s own estimates, the loss is around 50 thousand reais: 25 thousand for the instruments, 15 thousand in merchandise, and 8 thousand for the insurance on the rented car, excluding personal items, which were not disclosed.

How to help

So far, none of the stolen items have been recovered, but the band is accepting donations via Pix and PayPal. If that’s not possible, Papangu’s complete digital catalog is available on Bandcamp, where most of the proceeds go directly to the musicians. Additionally, the band asks that any similar items spotted in secondhand markets—on Facebook, OLX, Mercado Livre, or others—be reported to them through their Instagram profile (@papangu.br).

In less than 24 hours, they’ve raised about 25% of the total loss, but your donation can still make a difference! Contribute via PIX (for Brazilians) or PayPal using the address papangumusica@gmail.com. Their catalog is available on Bandcamp at the link below. For more information about the incident and future updates, check their Instagram profile. If you donate, please send the receipt to their inbox.
