One year without Tomas Lindberg – At The Gates remember him with a heartfelt statement

Today, September 16th, marks the one-year anniversary of the unfortunate passing of vocalist Tomas “Tompa” Lindberg, known for his work with At The Gates, Disfear, and others, as per theprp. The prominent Swedish artist bravely battledadenoid cystic carcinoma, a condition he was diagnosed with in December of 2023. Sadly, this illness ultimately tookhis life at the age of 52. Despite his health struggles, he succeeded in recording the vocals for what would be his lastalbum with At The Gates, titled “The Ghost Of A Future Dead. ” This album was released posthumously in April of this year. Today, his fellow band members shared their thoughts on social media in memory of their late friend and companion.

Today marks one year since you left us. It still feels unfathomable, and the pain of losing you remains really immense. 
The world without you feels like an empty place and we are still learning how to navigate life without you. 
You were one of the kindest, most generous, funniest person that we got to know, and we feel incredibly fortunate to have had the opportunity to be your friend and to create music together.

We would also like to express our deepest and most heartfelt gratitude to all the fans for your kind words, stories, and photos of Tomas. 
Your messages have meant more to us than we can put into words.

Former members of the black metal and death band Grotesque founded At the Gates in late 1990. “Gardens of Grief”, their debut EP, was recorded for the Dolores record label. The band signed with Peaceville Records as a result of the EP, and their debut album, “The Red in the Sky Is Ours”, was released in 1992. Alf Svensson, the band’s founding member and guitarist, left the group in 1993 after recording their second studio album, “With Fear I Kiss the Burning Darkness”, to focus on his solo project, Oxiplegatz, tattoo art, and graphic novel illustration. Martin Larsson, a former guitarist for the House of Usher, took his place. In July 1993, the band was shot for a Headbangers Ball special feature in Nottingham, England, while on tour throughout Europe.
