Omnium Gatherum unleash new single and video “The Last Hero”

Finnish melodic death metal veterans Omnium Gatherum have just dropped their latest single “The Last Hero”, complete with a striking music video. Directed by longtime collaborator Jari Heino with additional footage from Brendan McGowan, the video sets the tone for what’s to come on their upcoming album “May The Bridges We Burn Light The Way”, expected later this year.

The new track showcases a heavier and more groove-oriented sound than the band’s previous material. According to guitarist Markus Vanhala, it reflects the spirit of an old-school street hero—someone who never gives up, constantly charging forward in the name of the fight itself. While that relentless drive is admirable, it also serves as a metaphor for how we can become blind to the bigger picture by being locked in combat, even if it’s just symbolic.

Vocalist Jukka Pelkonen described “The Last Hero” as fast, melodic, and aggressive, with a powerful hook. It tells the story of someone who simply refuses to back down, no matter the cost—a spirit of perseverance woven into both the lyrics and the music.

After wrapping up a successful Australian tour with Insomnium, the band has now announced a full European tour scheduled for early 2026. The trek will feature support from U.S. progressive death metal group Fallujah and Swedish outfit In Mourning, and will bring Omnium Gatherum’s upcoming album to fans across the continent.

Their previous full-length album, “Origin”, dropped in 2021 and in June 2023, they released the “Slasher” EP, a four-track offering that includes an energetic original title song and a cover of the ’80s hit “Maniac.” Like “Origin”, “Slasher” was mixed by Jens Bogren and mastered by Tony Lindgren at Fascination Street Studios.
