Monopoly becomes Metal! The legendary Wacken Open Air is getting its very own special edition of the world-famous board game!
Fans of the cult festival can look forward to a musical journey through the heavy metal metropolis of Wacken, packed with unique details and a real W:O:A feeling. Here, the Schlossstraße becomes the Harder Stage, the Südbahnhof becomes the Camping Plaza and instead of the event tickets, the Wacken version naturally takes you into the mosh pit.
Jasper Ahrendt, Head of Merchandising at W:O:A, reveals that it took exactly one year to develop the toughest version of Haspro’s traditional game to date and explains how the community was involved.
In October 2023, we asked fans for their suggestions for a Wacken Monopoly and we received several thousand submissions.
The game board is all about the famous festival locations: players buy parts of the grounds, collect rents and build their own metal domination as they move through the infield, where the biggest metal bands in the world usually play, or visit the Wacken Center with its merchandising stands. Instead of the classic houses and hotels, there are tents and caravans in the style that is a must every year on the field.
The game pieces include the town sign, a guitar or a typical W:O:A drinking cup. Thanks to the “Moshpit” and “Barbecue Break” cards, every round is a new experience in which metalheads can choose their festival adventures by rolling the dice.
The Wacken Monopoly is available from today for 49.90 euros HERE!
Seven new bands announced
The Monopoly game is not the only news with which the Wacken Open Air can excite its fans: Just in time for Halloween, there’s a slew of new bands – namely the darkest and heaviest guns that W:O:A 2025 will be bringing to the (Un)Holy Ground!
The dark star line-up of the “Night To Dismember” will be led by the legendary Macabre. The musicians from Chicago have been scaring their way through the mosh pits with their murder metal for 40 years and are now sharpening their axe for the visit to the north.
26 years after their last appearance, British death metallers Benediction are also returning to the Wacken Open Air and will be firing their double-bass salvos over the Holy Ground.
From the forests and swampy depths of the Amazon, Brazil’s Krisiun will bring their merciless guitar riffs to the Holy Ground.
They will be joined by Hellbutcher, who will bring a bit of Nifelheim to the field with their eponymous frontman.
Also on board are black metal warriors Svarttjern from Norway and their genre colleagues, the German-Costarican band Umbra Conscientia.
Last but not least, 1349, the black metal band around Satyricon drummer Frost, who will be bringing their new album “The Wolf & The King” with them, complete the dark line-up for the spooky festival Thursday.
