Norwegian band Gåte have signed to Season of Mist and today released “Sannsiger”, the first single from their forthcoming sixth studio album, due in October 2026. This is the band’s most internationally ambitious chapter to date, and the single makes clear they’re not easing into it.
“Sannsiger” is built around the figure of the sannsiger, a folklore archetype understood as one who reads signs and speaks what lies ahead, even at cost. The track earns that framing: Hardanger fiddle and nyckelharpa thread through a contemporary band sound, locked into a groove driven by repetition and ritual tension, with Gunnhild Sundli‘s lead vocals joined by Maria Franz of Heilung.
Rooted in the intersection of Nordic folk tradition and contemporary rock, Norwegian band Gåte has spent over two decades developing a sound that feels both ancient and fiercely present. Drawing on centuries-old ballads, oral traditions, and traditional vocal forms, the band transforms these sources into music that is physical, emotionally direct, and unmistakably their own.
Emerging in the early 2000s, Gåte became one of Norway’s most distinctive bands. After a twelve-year hiatus, the band returned in 2017 and has since built on their strong position at home while gradually expanding their presence beyond Norway. Rather than treating tradition as a fixed reference, the Gåte approach it as a living force.
Old material is not preserved for its own sake, but reworked and re-contextualized, allowing it to resonate with contemporary urgency and relevance. Their concerts are immersive and intense, balancing raw energy with a ritual-like focus that has earned them a growing reputation on international stages.
