Yesterday, the Nine Inch Nails social media accounts posted a cryptic link to an un-updated website addressed ‘futureruins.com’, leading to speculation that there was an associated announcement taking place soon. Today, those speculations have proven true as the website updated and revealed the new music & arts festival, Future Ruins, curated by Nine Inch Nails‘ own Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross.
Future Ruins will take place on November 8th in the Los Angeles Equestrian Center, featuring three separate stages within. The festival is the first of its kind, and promises to be filled with some of the most influential composers of our time. The festival will give a chance for these famous film & television composers to step out from behind the screen and onto the stage, allowing their powerful music to be heard live for the first time. The festival’s website spells out just what is to be expected if you attend:
Future Ruins is designed to feel thoughtful and immersive, bringing this music to light in an environment where it has never been heard before. Every artist is a headliner, each with their own specially curated moment. Each artist is encouraged to take big swings and reimagine their work for a live audience. Ranging from electronic sets and live bands to orchestral performances, fans have the chance to experience live debuts from composers who rarely appear onstage.
This one-time line up is not just a music festival — it’s a cinematic ceremony, a deep dive into sound and story, and a historic first for Los Angeles.
The roster for the festival holds up to the claims of having notable composers in attendance, which we’ve listed below, along with a few of their associated works:
Cristobal Tapia de Veer (Smile, The White Lotus), Ben Salisbury & Geoff Barrow (Ex Machina, Luce), Danny Elfman (Batman, Edward Scissorhands), Claudio Simonetti’s Goblin (Suspiria, Tenebrae), Hildur Guðnadóttir (Joker, Chernobyl), Howard Shore (Crash), Isobel Waller-Bridge (Emma., Black Mirror), John Carpenter (Halloween, The Thing), Kyle Dixon & Michael Stein (Stranger Things, Lost in the Night), Mark Mothersbaugh (Rugrats, Thor: Ragnarok), Questlove (performing the score works of Curtis Mayfield), Robert Aiki Aubrey Lowe (Candyman, Master), Tamar-kali (Mudbound, Shirley), Terence Blanchard (Malcolm X, Inside Man), Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Challengers), and Volker Bertelmann aka Hauschka (Conclave, Dune: Prophecy).
