There are risks associated with a mosh pit at any metal event, ranging from bodily injury to hygiene discomfort, as per theprp. However, at Devilskin’s July 25th performance at the Union Hall in Dunedin, New Zealand, there was an uncommon risk for attendees: someone having a poo in the pit. According to the Otago Daily Times, a concertgoer urinated in the pit during a performance, and other attendees unintentionally trampled it and spread it around the auditorium, starting a chain reaction of vomiting and disgust. The incident was reported to the aforementioned publication by an attendee who preferred to remain anonymous.

It was a rock and metal concert, so there was a lot of jumping. And then eventually someone must have, like, looked down and noticed that there was just a huge mess of sh*t, just completely spread all in the mosh pit, like, all over the FX. It’s on people’s feet. People are wearing skirts and sh*t is up their legs and stuff, and then one girl went bleh — just vomited on the sh*t — and then everyone else starts vomiting.

It was huge, like, massive. I haven’t seen one that big before. I thought it was some guy’s shoe, it was so big. It was unbelievable

The unnamed spectator claims that the damage was already done when the performance was halted to give workers time to tidy up the area before the music could begin. She reported seeing at least one woman sobbing in the entryway with faeces splattered on her legs and vomit in her hair. As it happens, security apprehended the defecator, who was then passed over to the local police. According to the publication, he was described as “a middle-aged man” who “shook the log out of his trouser leg in the mosh pit.Devilskin are not the only band to meet this destiny; in 2021, melodic hardcore artists Turnstile also encountered a similar circumstance. The event did not completely ruin Devilskin’s set, as may be seen in the video below.
