Former Iron Maiden drummer Nicko McBrain has criticized U.S. president Donald Trump, saying that Trump and those around him “should be put in jail.” In a new interview with British newspaper The Telegraph, McBrain also revealed that he turned down an invitation to play golf with the president.
The invitation came through a friend of McBrain’s who is a strong Republican supporter. The drummer recalled being asked whether he wanted to play golf “with the president,” to which he replied: “You fucking what?” before declining.
McBrain said he does not usually consider himself politically inclined, but made clear that he has strong views about Trump. “I’m not amused by the narcissism, and all this kerfuffle about the Epstein files and whatnot, and especially the debauched war that he’s put on Iran,” he told The Telegraph.
He also referred to U.S. defense secretary Pete Hegseth, saying, “And this Pete Hegseth business — oh, he’s going to be put in prison.” McBrain then concluded: “My last word on Trump and his bunch of cronies is, they should be put in jail.” The remarks reflect the musician’s personal opinions.
The interview comes as McBrain promotes his autobiography, “Hello Boys And Girls!”, which is scheduled for release on October 22, 2026, through Harper Nonfiction. The book looks back on his life and career, including his 42 years with Iron Maiden.
McBrain stepped away from touring with Iron Maiden in December 2024. His final performance with the band took place in São Paulo, Brazil, after he had spent more than four decades behind the kit. He has since announced a spoken-word tour to accompany the memoir, with dates scheduled across Europe beginning in late October.
