Scottish rock band Nazareth has terminated its association with vocalist Carl Sentance and has appointed Gianni Pontillo as his replacement, as per blabbermouth.net.
Carl Sentance and Nazareth have come to a parting of the ways, and he is no longer with the band. We would like to introduce you now to our new lead singer, Gianni Pontillo. Those who have seen and heard Gianni will already know what an incredible voice he has, and those of you who haven’t are in for a wonderful surprise when you come to see us in 2026. Next year is going to be one of the busiest in Nazareth’s history, so there is a good chance to see the new lineup, and we can’t wait to introduce you to this man’s amazing talent.
Pontillo’s previous collaborations include performances with Pure Inc., The Order, and Souls Revival, as well as participation in all-star productions such as “Rock Circus” and “This Is Rock” by Das Zelt. Since 2019, he has also served as the frontman for the German hard rock band Victory, and in 2023, he initiated a new project titled Pontillo & The Vintage Crew. In 2015, Carl Sentance assumed the role of lead vocalist for Nazareth following the retirement of founding member Dan McCafferty due to health reasons. Sentance’s most recent solo album, “Silent Angels,” was released in 2024.
Nazareth was established in Dunfermline, Scotland, in 1968, and their debut album, titled “NAZARETH,” was issued in 1971.
The band gained widespread recognition after supporting Deep Purple on tour, culminating in the release of the “Razamanaz” album in early 1973, produced by Roger Glover, which received critical and commercial acclaim. They subsequently released a series of successful albums, including “Loud ‘N’ Proud,” “Rampant,” and the chart-topping “Hair Of The Dog” in April 1975.
The “Hair Of The Dog” album featured enduring tracks such as the eponymous song, later covered by Guns N’ Roses on their “The Spaghetti Incident?” album, along with the classic “Love Hurts.” The band has continued to produce new material and perform internationally, approaching their 58th year of existence in 2026.
