Founder and lead voice of hard rock pioneers, Nazareth, Dan McCafferty, has died at the age of 76. The sad announcement was shared by his friend Pete Agnew, still a member of the band. On Facebook, the bassist declares in grief:

“Dan died at 12:40 today. This is the saddest announcement I ever had to make. Maryann and the family have lost a wonderful loving husband and father, I have lost my best friend, and the world has lost one of the greatest singers who ever lived. Too upset to say anything more at this time.

– Pete Agnew

Dan McCafferty’s last album with Nazareth was “Rock’n’Roll Telephone” released in June 2014, one year after the singer’s retirement from touring, due to health issues.

From the rock scene, the first messages of condolences are coming. For example, Ricky Warwick, frontman of Thin Lizzy and Black Star Riders, expresses his pain on Twitter.
