Few names are as deeply woven into the history of black metal as Immortal. From their early days in the Norwegian underground to their status as one of the genre’s most distinctive and inspiring forces, Immortal have continuously evolved while remaining true to their own vision. Across decades and different chapters in the band’s history, Immortal’s music has retained its cold, epic, and instantly recognizable character.
The early albums established Immortal as one of the defining forces of the Norwegian black metal scene — raw, cold, and uncompromising. The mid-1990s marked a turning point in the band’s evolution. With “Battles in the North” and “Blizzard Beasts”, Immortal pushed their trademark coldness and aggression to a faster and more intense musical level. The raw atmosphere of the early years remained, but the songwriting became more powerful, laying the foundations for the monumental sound that would define Immortal’s next era.
In later years, Immortal brought more classic metal influences into their sound, with stronger melodies and more traditional riffs, while maintaining their unmistakable black metal identity.
This complete box set brings together all of Immortal’s studio albums, documenting the band’s remarkable journey from the raw, primitive force of their early years, beginning with “Diabolical Fullmoon Mysticism” (1992), to the monumental, razor-sharp sound of their later work, culminating in two brilliant albums, “Northern Chaos Gods” (2018) and “War Against All” (2023), with Demonaz taking on lead vocal duties.
The collection also includes the band’s live release, “The Seventh Date of Blashyrkh”, capturing Immortal on stage during their memorable 2007 Wacken Open Air performance.
Across their career, Immortal have built a unique musical universe: cold, raw, powerful, and epic. This box set brings that entire catalogue together in one definitive collection. For those who have followed Immortal from the beginning, it is a chance to experience the complete journey once again. For new listeners, it is an invitation to discover how one of black metal’s most important acts developed its sound, its vision, and its legacy.
This is the definitive Immortal collection. Demons stride at the gates of Blashyrkh. Now it’s time to enter the Winter Kingdom.
