Tarja Turunen needs little introduction, as the iconic Finnish artist is a pioneer and an icon in the symphonic metal scene, inspiring thousands of musicians and with a legion of fans worldwide. Despite her international success over the last three decades, the charismatic singer remains productive and creative.
Focused on her solo career since 2006, Tarja has released EPs, compilations, live albums, and different projects practically year after year in the last decade, but what makes Frisson Noir, her newest record, so special is that it’s her first studio album in seven years, following In the Raw from 2019.
The new work, co-produced with her husband Marcelo Cabuli, is not only the heaviest of her solo career but also her most personal as a composer. Besides Turunen’s unforgettable voice, the full-length album is packed with special guests such as her former Nightwish bandmate Marko Hietala, Dani Filth from Cradle of Filth, Apocalyptica, Chad Smith from the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and many more. Mixed by Neal Avron and mastered by Ted Jensen, Frisson Noir will be released on June 12th via earMUSIC.
Promoting the new album, Chaoszine sat down with Tarja in Helsinki, Finland, for an in-depth talk about the newest record, her Finnish roots, working with her husband, the two decades of Henkäys ikuisuudesta, and finding balance as a person and an artist. Check it out!
