Max Cavalera shares his point of view about A.I.

In a recent interview with the RRBG podcast, Max Cavalera, the former lead vocalist of Sepultura and current frontman of Soulfly, shared his perspective on a contemporary debate.

He discussed the utilization of artificial intelligence (A.I.) music generators as instruments for composing melodies, harmonies, and lyrical content through A.I. algorithms and machine learning (M.L.) models. This is what he stated, as per Blabbermouth.

That’s one of my arguments with people about this whole A.I. shit. To me, that’s like what A.I. cannot do. You can’t really put people like me and Dino [Cazares, Fear Factory guitarist], or me and Chino [Moreno, Deftones singer], or me and Tom Araya [Slayer vocalist], and you get a cool song out of it. A.I. can never do that. And they won’t be able to do it. They’ll do a false Xerox of it, but it’s not the same… I don’t give a shit what people say. It’s not the same, man, and it will never be.

My hope is that we can coexist with this thing; that’s my wish. ‘Cause I think some of it can be good, if it’s done the right way. I think we’re gonna actually learn to coexist with this A.I. technology and see where it goes from there. But the soul of the person, yeah, that’s a unique thing. Your heart, your passion, that’s a human thing, man.

Soulfly’s thirteenth studio album, “Chama,” was released on October 24 through Nuclear Blast Records. The album was co-produced by Soulfly’s drummer, Zyon Cavalera, who is also Max Cavalera’s son, and was recorded at the Platinum Underground Studio in Mesa, Arizona, with engineer John Aquilino. Aquilino has previously collaborated with Max Cavalera and his band and is recognized for his technical skill and familial connection. Production duties were shared between Zyon Cavalera and Arthur Rizk, the latter also responsible for mixing and mastering the album. Rizk has a history of working with the Cavalera family and has contributed to shaping contemporary heavy metal. The album artwork was created by Carletta Parrish. Musicians on the album include Igor Amadeus Cavalera on bass and Mike De Leon on guitar.
