Max and Iggor Cavalera will not participate in Sepultura’s final show
Author Benedetta Baldin - 25.3.2026
Sepultura‘s farewell tour is coming to a conclusion after several years, as per theprp. It’s becoming more and more obvious that the band’s erstwhile fraternal combination of vocalist/guitarist Max Cavalera and Iggor Cavalera will not be participating, even if the Brazilian metal titans are still negotiating the specifics of their farewell performance. The Cavalera twins both played significant roles in the group’s earliest compositions. But in 1996, Max left the band due to an internal conflict over his wife Gloria’s managerial style. Iggor stayed aboard until 2006.
Since then, the Cavalera brothers have gotten back together and started re-recording Sepultura‘s early works under the Cavalera name. On those very significant early performances from the Sepultura discography, they have also toured extensively. When Sepultura hangs up later this year, guitarist Andrea Kisser hopes to experience a full circle moment despite decades of alienation. Kisser has disclosed that his attempts to bring the classic era lineup back together have been rejected, as Sepultura‘s demise is now soberingly near. A few months ago, Kisser was able to speak with Iggor and contact Max via representatives, but neither of them expressed interest in taking part. Kisser recently discussed that last show with this Metal Hammer.
We did invite the Cavalera brothers. I spoke to Iggor personally on a phone call a few months ago and we started some communication. Even our managers went to talk to their management and stuff. But, they don’t want to be a part of it, and that’s OK. It’s a choice.
It would make sense to have a celebration at the end, for the fans, and just to enjoy ourselves onstage. Like it was on ‘Roots‘, you know? Despite all the fucking crazy stuff around it, we managed to make that album and finish what we had to do, you know?
