Arcadea, the synth-metal trio led by Mastodon’s Brann Dailor alongside Core Atoms and João Nogueira, have previewed their new album “The Exodus of Gravity”—set to land on August 22nd via Relapse Records—by spotlighting the new track “Lake of Rust.” This follows earlier releases of “Fuzzy Planet” and the title track “Exodus of Gravity,” both embracing a nimble blend of cosmic psychedelia, danceable grooves, and futuristic storytelling.
“Lake of Rust” appears as track four on the twelve-song album, which unspools a sci-fi narrative set billions of years in the future on a planet called New Arcadea. In this story, gravity has faltered, leaving behind a mechanical world where robotic figures and silent spores begin to awaken empathy, life, and love—especially among synthetic beings.
The album signals a shift in Arcadea’s approach: moving away from the dense, prog-laden stylings of their 2017 debut, the new material emphasizes groove, fun, and movement—something Brann Dailor has described as aiming to be more dancey and playful than before. Recorded at West End Sound within Mastodon’s Ember City facility and produced by the band itself with Tom Tapley handling engineering, the album will be released in various formats including vinyl, CD, cassette, and digital.
