Mastodon members confirm they have been recording music

Mastodon guitarist Bill Kelliher declared in late 2023 that it was “past time to write a new record,” and it appears the aforementioned alternative metal group from Atlanta, Georgia, may have fulfilled his promise. Yesterday, May 30th, the drummer and vocalist of the band, Brann Dailor, posted a video of himself in the studio playing a microphoned drum kit. Dailor responded to a fan who inquired about whether new Mastodon music was in the works directly, saying, “something like that 😉,” even though he didn’t explicitly state what the sessions appeared to be for.

The band’s own West End Sound, where they have previously recorded music, is where the alleged sessions took place. It remains to be seen if this turns out to be new Mastodon, a part of a potential 15th-anniversary release of “Crack The Skye,” or something else entirely. The band is scheduled to play “Leviathan” live every night in honour of its 20th anniversary, so this summer they will be reflecting on their 2004 album. In order to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their own 2004 opus, the gold-certified “Ashes Of The Wake,” they will be out co-headlining with Richmond, Virginia groove metallers Lamb Of God. Malevolence, Unearth, and Kerry King will accompany them on that journey:
