Maria Brink (In This Moment) reveals more about her upcoming solo project

In a recent interview with James Wilson-Taylor of U.K. outlet Rock Sound, In This Moment frontwoman Maria Brink confirmed plans to release her long-awaited debut solo album in the near future, as per Blabbermouth.

I am doing my first solo project between [In This Moment’s recently released ninth album, ‘Witch’, and the band’s next LP]. Maria Brink’s Coven — I’m gonna call it Coven, and that’s gonna be my first thing that I’ve done [as a solo artist]. And then that gives Chris [Howorth, In This Moment guitarist] and I some extra time to really perfect the next In This Moment album between the two. I’m excited.

Brink has contemplated a solo release for nearly a decade, having first discussed the venture with Metal Hammer back in December 2017.

… thinking, for the first time, of doing a solo album. I’m starting to slowly write, no hard plans. I’m not exactly sure when I’m gonna do it, but it’ll be more of the obscure, intimate, quiet side of me. Probably the only drums in it would be tribal drums and probably no distorted guitars. Just the softer side of me. That’s who I am. Chris would not want to do an obscure, artistic, dreamscaping album. That’s not who he is.

Brink revealed that she intends to scale back the heavy theatricality characteristic of In This Moment.

It would be just me and a piano and one dress and candles all over the whole stage.

She also shared her prospective vision for performing on stage without the full band behind her.

It doesn’t frighten me, it sounds amazing. I love change. I’m a Sagittarius and I love adventure and new beginnings. New experiences because it makes me feel like I’m living. When I play piano by myself and sing, something really special happens. I connect to something that I love. My favorite moment in our In This Moment set is when I go out by myself to play a song on the piano. That would be me being able to do that for a whole intimate set, and I think it would fill my soul.
