Marcus Andersson (of Disfear) has passed away

Author Benedetta Baldin - 16.9.2026

Cancer has sadly taken another gifted individual from the Swedish crust punk group Disfear, this time their longstanding drummer, Marcus Andersson, as per MetalInjection. Andersson succumbed to glioblastoma, a rapidly advancing andaggressive brain cancer, after battling it for four years. Our deepest sympathies to Andersson’s family, friends and loved ones. The band communicated Andersson’s death through a social media update on September 15. Regrettably, this marks not the first occasion Disfear has faced the loss of a member due to cancer.

Their original bassist, Henrik Frykman, died in 2011 following his own fight against the illness, while vocalist Tomas “Tompa” Lindberg, who was also part of At The Gates among several other bands, passed away last year after losing his struggle with a specific cancer known as adenoid cystic carcinoma. In a tragically ironic twist, Lindberg became a member of Disfear in the same year as Andersson, with his death occurring on September 16, 2025, indicating that the band was already preparing to commemorate the one-year anniversary of his passing, which falls tomorrow.

With profound sadness and grief, we are sharing the news of the untimely passing of our longtime friend and drummer, Marcus Andersson. Marcus fought incredibly hard but ultimately lost his 4-year battle with glioblastoma and leaves behind his beloved wife, children and dog.

Marcus has played with Disfear since 1998, contributing significantly to the creative trajectory of the band. Marcus was the best of friends, an incredible drummer, and a driving force, full of passion. A big heart, pumping to a rhythm that only he could uniquely master, has sadly stopped beating.

Losing Marcus, following the losses of Henrik and Tomas, is hard to comprehend.

Hug your loved ones.
