Finnish hard rock band Lordi continues to preview their upcoming album “Limited Deadition” (releasing March 21) with their new single “Hellizabeth.” The horror movie-themed music video follows two ghost hunters investigating an abandoned house as they attempt to document evidence of the mythical existence of the Hellizabeth character, or rather, ghost. Mr. Lordi comments on the track:
“‘Hellizabeth’ is once again a typical Lordi song both lyrically and musically, styled like a horror movie narrative about a haunted house haunting. Musically, I think the most surprising element is the strangely progressive intro. It stems from childhood memories of trying to learn to play an instrument. It’s actually just the verse’s vocal melody played in a nine-year-old’s style, with the whole band playing the same thing in unison. That’s how my brain worked with music as a child, before realizing: ‘Oh, the vocal melody is different, and the background elements are meant to provide harmony and chorus!'”
“Limited Deadition,” releasing through Reigning Phoenix, is the band’s nineteenth album. The album release will be celebrated with shows at Tampere’s Tavara-asema on March 21 and Helsinki’s Tavastia on March 22.
Known for their theatrical style and unique blend of 80s heavy rock, Lordi‘s latest creation is a nostalgic celebration of 80s toys, bursting with powerful new energy. Building on the success of their 2023 album “Screem Writers Guild,” “Limited Deadition” ventures into even heavier riffs and faster tempos, creating a familiar yet refreshed soundscape.
The new album, recorded at IluSound and Finnvox studios, is produced by Lordi, mixed by Ilkka Herkman, and mastered by Pauli Saastamoinen. As usual, Lordi handled the album’s visual design, channeling their passion for forty-year-old collectibles into every detail.
“It’s kind of a sister album to its predecessors,” Lordi explains. “We’re still on the path of AOR-influenced music, but this time more metal in terms of riffs and tempo. We’ve always written what feels right and natural, and this album is no exception.”
The thematic core of “Limited Deadition” is Lordi’s lifelong passion for collecting childhood action figures and toys.
“The album’s theme of 80s toys is just a loose concept, but it’s been with me since I was small. I’ve always been a collector of various items, even something of a hoarder. I don’t even remember what my first toy was, but my obsession basically started with Muppet Show dolls, followed by Star Wars and E.T. figures, the latter actually being from my all-time favorite movie.”
The album will be celebrated with an extensive tour starting in Tampere on March 21, followed by Helsinki the next day, before continuing to international audiences.
